about us:

we're committed to being stewards of the land and working for the future.
In the summer of 2023, we secured grant funding to allow us to shift 100% of our power sourcing for the farm to solar power!
We support sourcing ingredients and materials from local businesses whenever possible
Growing primarily indoors allows us to grow over 800 lbs. of mushrooms a month on less than half an acre of space!
All of our spent mushroom blocks and shiitake logs are composted when we’re finished with them (let us know if you ever have an interest in mushroom compost!)
Our Farm Story:
Owned & operated by Kalvin Stern & Rachel Davis - we both grew up near the small town of LeRoy, MN. The ten acre farmstead where Fiddlehead Knob is located has been farmed and tended to by Rachel’s family for four generations. The property sits near acres of state wildlife forests and beautiful prairies, providing us with an abundance of thriving flora and fauna to adventure in as a family.
After graduating from UW Stevens Point, we moved to Boone, NC to spend some time living in the Appalachian Mountains. During our time there we spent a lot of time hiking, camping, and foraging. Both of us worked in the local food scene while living there, and we were inspired to follow a dream of growing & sharing food with a community. After getting married in the fall of 2016 we decided it was time to move back home, put down roots, and launch our farm. We’ve been steadily growing since our inception in 2017 and have since welcomed two new little foragers to our family, Eliza Marie and Veda Lorraine.
When we aren’t devoting time to the farm and homestead, we enjoy hiking, spending time outside with our girls, and being with family & friends. We are also very passionate about cooking and preserving the food that we grow and forage around our farm.
Thanks for supporting our passion!
-Kalvin, Rachel, Eliza & Veda
